31DBBB: Taking the ProBlogger Challenge

by Alison Moore Smith on January 18, 2010

Expert: a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill in a particular area.

31 Days to Build a Better BlogAnyone can say they’re an expert. But before you follow just any, self-proclaimed guru down a long, expensive path, make sure they are who they say they are. More to the point, make sure they have done what they say they can teach you to do.

Too many in “making money on the internet” propositions have actually made their money by telling other how to make money. A virtual circular chain letter.

Amidst all the shouting and posturing on the internet, Darren Rowse stands out to me as a guy who has already walked the walk he likes to talk. Before he started giving advice on being a professional blogger, he was one — with his digital photography blog. When I recommend him as a valuable source for any blogger — beginning or advanced — it’s because I believe his advice is invaluable for you and will help you on the path to success.

In order to share what he offers, I’m going to work through his amazing book, 31 Days to Build a Better Blog, step-by-step with you. Using my dream home building blog as the model, I will follow and blog out each of his 31 steps.

This process will take more than 31 days, likely many more for a number of reasons.

  1. Some steps will take longer than a single day to complete and I don’t want to skimp.
  2. I don’t work on Sundays and, in fact, I don’t blog on days when it doesn’t fit in with my family.
  3. There are other things I want to do and see and blog about in the next 31 days.

Still, I’ll keep plugging away until I finish this exercise. My hope is that you will learn not only from Darren’s expertise, but from my efforts in this project. Your input is requested!

LOL, everyone seems to be an MMO “expert” these days, 90% of these people have never made a dime online.

I like Darren, he’s been around since the beginning of blogging and so he offers lots of experience.

Alison Moore Smith January 21, 2010 at 3:47 am

Spot on, JR. I prefer to take advice from people who actually know what they are doing, rather than those who pretend they do!

@ Allison

LOL, and there are so many of them, pathetic “MMO experts” who have never really made a dime online,

Good luck, I also took the challenge last year. You will learn a lot from it.

Alison Moore Smith January 27, 2010 at 3:54 am

Thanks, Teasatips.

Believe it or not, I’m still working on Day 1. Yes, I’ve been very busy with setting up some blogs for new clients, but I’m also struggling to get the elevator pitch the way I want it.
