6 Steps to Startup with WordPress: The Guide for the Wannabe Blogger

by Alison Moore Smith on December 5, 2009

This week I wrote a feature article for BloggingTips.com. If you’re anticipating becoming a blogger, this is a must-read. Before you decide that blogging is for you, you should know exactly what you’re getting into!

If you are a Win with 1 client, it’s got a big dose of important information, too. You’ll note that we complete steps three, most of four, and the essential parts of five for you! We do the technical work, you do the fun stuff.

Please read the full article on starting with WordPress.

This article explains the following steps:

  1. Choose a Topic
  2. Select a Domain
  3. Select Web Hosting
  4. Set Up Your Site
  5. Add Pages
  6. Write Your First WordPress Post

If you have any questions about how are services fit into the startup sequence, drop me a line.

Thanks for posting this link. I’m not a Blogging Tips reader, but our article there was very helpful. Of course, now I see why I need to use YOU to set up my blog. So much technical stuff!

Don’t you just love Wordpress? I am so happy as a blogger now! My blog looks so professional and so does yours! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Yes, I’ve been using WordPress for years and couldn’t be happier. Thanks for dropping by!

Free blog platforum users should realize now that they should move to wordpress. It is more professional and the functions are not infinite. :)

I wholeheartedly agree and, for the record, did long before I had a business interest in the switch. WordPress is a wonderful platform with great community support. But using any subdomain or non-integrated blogging service (like Blogger with its goofy, generic comment section) does not look professional.

If you’re serious about blogging, you should have your own domain and personal branding.

Alison,

I plan to make the move by the end of the month, so I’m heading over to your article.

Congrats on having a feature article on BloggingTips. Cool!

One question before I go, who is your web host?
@Ileane

Thanks very much. That was a fun assignment. And long!

We use FatCow for all our client hosting as well as our own business hosting, with the exception of a few sites we still host on our own servers. We have been very pleased with the hosting itself as well as the 24/7 customer service.

Alison,

I read this the other day, but I didn’t realize that was you. There was so much good information in it. Well done. Great info for beginning WordPress bloggers.

The most important determinant of wanting to be a blogger is determination. :-)
