I’ve long been planning a post on ways to make money using your blog. For the past year, I’ve had more work than I can handle and have had to pass up a number of good opportunities to focus on the best. That post is still under production, but today I learned of a site where bloggers or other internet users can make money by offering their services to others.
Affordable SEO service gigs can add up to a lot of extra cash. Some offerings include article translation, programming, social networking, twitter following, blog reviews, article writing, etc. Completing some of these assignments can add a nice cash flow to your online business.
If you do check out this company, however, please stick to the golden rule. Some of the offers include “blackhat/bulk links” and forum and blog linking. This morning I spent way too much time deleting over 4,600 spam comments from my blog — all from #@$%! people trying to get high-ranking links to their sites. (And I have 10,600 spam comments deal with on my lifestyle design blog. Not happy about that.)
If I got paid my going rate for all the time I’ve wasted wading through spam emails and spam comments, I’d be a wealthy woman. It’s such a drain on productivity to have to manage the thoughtless, unsavory acts of self-centered, unethical people.
Trust me, anyone who uses the word “weblog” is a spammer, and if the (real) comment below shows up on a post about plugins, you know you’ve been hit:

You can make money online and you can make it ethically — without harming others or causing wasted productivity. Just spend some time thinking about how your actions impact others. Then, dive in and get to work.

Ha ha. And I thought I got a lot of spam comments. Now my few hundred spam comments are looking pretty good compared to your few thousand
. By the way you should make a cron job to automatically delete your spam comments. Search it in google, there are plugins and/or instructions for that. When the comments are too many the server cannot delete them all in once, so this is why you need to make a cron to delete them while they are not that many.
And of course you need something to catch most of the spam comments. I am using Anti Captcha, it is invisible and seems to catch them. Also I guess aksimet could work. Of course there will always be the manual spam, but it is very little compared to the automatic.

BSWP, I suppose because in my nine years of blogging (on Sunday!) the only time I’ve ever seen a comment with the term was from a spammer. No one uses the term anymore.
Niki, I use akismet and it does work well. I try to sort through spam to pull out the few that were erroneously marked before I dump the lot. This time, I couldn’t. I just deleted them all. Hope not too many good emails were thrown out with the bathwater.

I would guess I’ve received tens of thousands of spam comments with the word “weblog” and exactly ZERO real comments using the word.

Just for fun, I pulled up my spam folder. I the past seven days I’ve accumulted 1,733 more spam comments. (There’s a special place in hell for people who make a living wasting the resources of others.) Of those, SIXTY include the archaic word “weblog.” I’ll post them a handful for a fun sample! (Of course, those full of backlinks won’t be reposted.)
P.S. If you google the EXACT quotes above (with quotes!), you are very likely to find EXACT duplicates that other bloggers let through. (I checked the second quote. It has at least 10 exact duplicates.)

. Yes, that means that the comment is spam. I also use this. I have also made a online free tool to make checking this easier. I am sorry for the sefl promoting, it was not planned 
. I am not going to put a link, just google Twin4o. It is very useful for comments, also for guest posts, to check if they are duplicate.
Yeah, there are some comments that are not spam but are marked as spam. Hmm.. I am not going through them in my blog. But I am not using Aksimet, so I do not know which plugin actually is more correct. You can also block some IP adresses with htaccess I guess, but eventually new will show up. I am blocking many IPs of bots. I am looking though the Awstats in the CPanel and the raw logs and I find many very active bots that I block. This could reduce spam a lot. Also it reduces CPU time on the server.

I have a lot of those comments also. This is why I hate automated blog commenting tools. They don’t know how hard it is to moderate blogs.
I have visited the link about Affordable SEO and I think that it is a very useful website for SEO’s (It is exactly like fiverr). I live in Greece, I am an SEO Expert and you helped me expand my SEO borders, because I already made a gig about translating English articles into Greek language! So…be prepared for your revenues…:::)))). Now as far as the spam comments, it is the price you pay for having your blog as a “DoFollow”. If you change it to “NoFollow” then you won’t have so many spam comments but your traffic will be dropped dramatically.
I guess as long as SEO is concern, we really can’t avoid spam comments. SO I do moderation, a lot.

I do not quite agree to what you said about the ‘weblog’ spammers..
But I do agree that there are a lot of spammers out there. Sucking link juice from other sites.
But as bloggers we are free to communicate and engage to discussions within our market niche.

I have the same problem with my “weblog.”
Akismet does do a pretty good job in my opinion of weeding out the spam comments into my spam box. The problem I’m having now is getting spam comments on pages that don’t even have contact forms. Not sure how that’s happening?
The other thing that I really hate is when sites scrape my content, and then I get pingbacks showing me articles that were entirely ripped off. Furthermore, I’ve had people shared the scraped versions of the articles on Twitter, etc – in which I had to go back and send them to correct version and ask them to reshare. Just annoying…

Thanks for the article. SEO should not be some dreadful tactic to outsmart other bots, it should be about quality. Luckily, lately I think blackhat practices succeed less and less.
